Farmers’ Market Book Sale

In general, I try to stay away from the Farmers’ Market. When I do go I either end up feasting on large bags of kettle corn, buying Chinese food I really didn’t need, or I somehow find myself straddled with carrying ten pounds of produce onto public transportation. (Trust me, you don’t want to try this.)

But there’s something else you can pick up at the Farmer’s Market that will neither add to your saddlebags nor way you down too much.

Books.

Come to Cesar Chavez Park on Wednesdays from 10 am - 2 pm to view a wide selection of books at unbeatable prices. Even if you don't buy anything, isn't it worth the trip just to see the shiny, happy people selling books?

Would you like a little sci-fi with your cherries?

Last year the Central Library Friends participated in the Wednesday Farmers’ Market in Cesar Chavez Park from June through October and discovered how much fun it was to sit under a cool (sort of) canopy, talk to the many downtown workers, and sell new and slightly used books to them. This year we were able to meet the deadline for opening day in May, and our first day back in the Park yielded some of the following comments and questions:

“We’re so happy to see you back at the Farmers’ Market.” (Yea!)
“Last year I bought up all of your sci-fi. Can you bring some next week?” (Yes)
“Do you accept donations?” (Yes)
“Do you sell National Geographic magazines?” (Yes, inside the Library on the first floor in the Friends' sale area)
“Will you have audio books next time? Last year another woman and I competed all season long to buy them before the other.” (We'll see what we can do!)

So please look for us every Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. We'll be the ones offering books instead of cherries and pistachios. Thank you, Sacramento, for your support this year--we love being an integral part of our downtown community.

Winter Warehouse Book Sale!

The Friends of the Sacramento Public Library are sponsoring a Winter Warehouse Sale on Saturday and Sunday, December 8 and 9. Public sale hours will be noon to 5 pm on Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday. Friends’ members only are invited to shop from 9 am to noon on Saturday. The sale will be held in the Friends’ warehouse, at the rear of their Book Den store, 8250 Belvedere Avenue, Suite E, between Power Inn Road and Florin-Perkins Road just south of 14th Avenue. A large number of paperback and hard-bound books, records, videos, CDs and other materials will be available at prices ranging from $.25 to $2.00.

The Book Den store will be open during the Warehouse Sale, too. At the Book Den shoppers select from individually priced better books, including collectibles, and other materials, with most books priced at $3 and up. The Book Den is open every Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm, but during this special sale it will also be open the longer Saturday hours and the Sunday hours of the Warehouse Sale. All proceeds, after expenses, benefit the Sacramento Public Library.

For more information call the Library Telis service at 264-2920.
